Frequently Asked Questions - Also see our Testimonials page to the left for more information.

Q – Can I use the Moisture Guard™ Electronic Hearing Aid Dryer with all types of Hearing Aids?

A - The Moisture Guard™ is designed for all types of assistive hearing devices which include:

BTE (behind-the-ear, ITE (in-the-ear, ITC (in-the-canal), CIC (completely-in-the-canal) and BAHA (bone- anchored hearing aids)

A recent customer contacted their BAHA specialist, wanting to know if the Moisture Guard™ would be of benefit with the abutment part of their BAHA system. The abutment is the component outside the skin of BAHA systems. These components are exposed to elements like moisture and other debris; just like hearing aids. The BAHA specialist stated that the Moisture Guard™ would be perfect for the abutment.

Q – How often should I clean my Hearing Aids?

A – Audiologists recommend cleaning your hearing aids on a daily basis to prolong their natural life. This includes the use of a dehumidifier.

Q – What should I use to clean and care for my Hearing Aids?

A – It is extremely important to use the proper cleaning techniques when caring for your hearing aids. Do not use household cleaning agents or oil products as they can damage the electronic circuitry. Instead, use audio wipes or a soft, dry cloth along with specially designed tools and brushes for hearing aids. Never attempt to clean a hearing aid by inserting sharp objects such as needles, pins, or toothpicks; this may damage sensitive internal parts.

Q – How do I know if my hearing is getting worse, or if my hearing aid needs professional cleaning? I keep my hearing aid clean, and it looks fine on the outside.

A –Only your Hearing Professional, Au.D., etc. can diagnose further hearing loss. What many people presume to be further hearing loss is often times just hearing aids in need of cleaning. An office visit and cleaning may mean money out of your pocket and time without your hearing aid!

Q – What is most likely to damage my Hearing Aids?

A – The things most likely to damage your hearing aids are: Moisture, Ear wax and oils produced by your body.

Q – Does the Moisture Guard™ get too hot for my Hearing Aids?

A – No. Since hearing aids are susceptible to extreme heat or cold, the Moisture Guard™ Electronic Hearing Aid Dryer reaches a temperature warm enough to evaporate moisture, liquefy oils, and dry out earwax. But well within all hearing aid manufacturer’s temperature range for recommended storage.

Q – How often should I use my Moisture Guard™ Hearing Aid Dryer?

A – The Moisture Guard™ Hearing Aid Dryer is safe to use every night. However, actual usage required depends on the individual. Some people are prone to produce more moisture, oils and ear wax, while others produce less.

Q – Will the Moisture Guard™ Electronic Hearing Aid Dryer cause the tubing on my Hearing Aid to dry out?

A – No. The Moisture Guard™ will help remove moisture from the tubing but will not damage it. The material used to make hearing aid tubing naturally becomes dry, brittle, and yellow over time. Hearing aid tubing should be replaced as prescribed or recommended by your Hearing Professional.

Q – Should I leave the battery in my hearing aid when I place it in the Moisture Guard™?

A – We recommend that batteries be removed while hearing aids are in the Moisture Guard™ to ensure that any moisture inside the battery compartment evaporates.

Q – Does the Moisture Guard™ require batteries?

A – No. The Moisture Guard™ is powered by a standard two-prong, 12V adaptor which is included with the Moisture Guard™.

Q – Does the Moisture Guard™ have a fan inside it?

A – No. The Moisture Guard™ creates dry heat through safe, ceramic, electronic components.

Q – Can I dry out anything that fits in the Moisture Guard™ Electronic Hearing Aid Dryer?

A – The Moisture Guard™ Electronic Hearing Aid Dryer was specifically designed over fifteen years ago for assistive hearing devices by a team of hearing aid manufacturers and electrical engineers with a high level of education and experience. Some Moisture Guard™ owners have reported drying out wrist watches, cell phones and other small electronic devices. However, the Moisture Guard™ Electronic Hearing Aid Dryer is not intended for use with any electronic device other than those designed specifically for the augmentation of hearing.
